Drug name: Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole)
Therapeutic effects:
Omeprazole is metabolized in the gastric parietal cells to active sulfonamide derivatives, which inactivate sulfhydryl group of H+K+ -ATPase. It blocks the final stage of hydrochloric acid synthesis, reducing both basal and stimulated secretion, regardless of the nature of the stimulus. Prevacid inhibits the production of pepsin and the growth of Helicobacter pylori. The drug also has a gastroprotective effect: improves the oxygenation of the mucous membrane, increases secretion of bicarbonates.
Indications:
- Gastric and duodenal ulcer
- Reflux esophagitis, erosive-ulcerative esophagitis
- Erosive and ulcerative gastric and duodenal lesions associated with NSAIDs, stress ulcers
- Erosive and ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum associated with Helicobacter pylori (in the complex therapy)
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
