Drug name: Generic Prozac (Fluoxetine)

Therapeutic effects:

Fluocetine is a chemical drug with antidepressant and anorectic effects. The drug selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, which increases its concentration in the synaptic cleft, strengthens and prolongs its action on postsynaptic receptors. Increasing serotonergic transmission, Fluoxetine inhibits the neurotransmitter exchange.

Fluoxetine is effective in the treatment of endogenous depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. It has anorectics effect that may cause weight loss.

Indications:

Depression (especially with presence of fear)
Obsessive-compulsive disorders
Bulimia nervosa

Nervous system: dizziness, headache, drowsiness or insomnia, lethargy, fatigue, asthenia, tremor, agitation, anxiety, suicidal tendency (peculiar to patients with major depressive disorder), mania or hypomania

Some anxiolytics (alprazolam, diazepam)
Li+ agents

Fluoxetine must not be used in the following conditions:

Hypersensitivity
Hepatic and renal insufficiency
Use of MAO inhibitors (in the preceding 2 weeks)
Epilepsy and a history of convulsive states
Suicidal tendency
Diabetes
Urinary bladder atony
Angle-closure glaucoma
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Pregnancy, breastfeeding

Take Fluoxetine with caution if any of the following conditions apply:

Children
Myocardial infarction
Liver cirrhosis

Additional information:

The drug should be stored at room temperature (15° to 30°C), out of the reach of children. Shelf life is 3 years.
